Lava Lake of Democratic Republic of Congo | Nyiragongo Volcano

Image
Nyiragongo is one of the most active volcanoes on the planet, it is 2,000 meters high and has been little studied since during the last 20 years the Democratic Republic of Congo, where it is located, has been constantly at war. At the base of the volcano stretches the city of Goma, increasingly crowded with refugees escaping from rebel and government forces in the interior of the country. The diameter of the largest crater is about two kilometers wide, and in its very center a lake of hot lava is often formed, which this article is devoted to. For a long time, the hot Nyiragongo lava lake was the largest in the world. Wonders of Nature        Goma, which has an estimated population of more than 1 million people crammed                   together, has on many occasions suffered the fury of the volcano. In 1977 the lava descended the mountain at over 90 kilometers per hour, killing several hundred people,      although the flow hardened before reaching the main part of the city a

Luxury Spanish Funeral Cars Show

Image
This past weekend, the International Classic Vehicle Salon in Madrid put together an impressive collection of ornate funeral vehicles, the likes of which we’ve only ever previously seen in ones or twos rather than gathered together for display. Together they make for an impressive spread, exhibiting fine and extensive carvings on their magnificent coachwork. Miguel Caballero Covián, who has in the past sent us photos of collectible American cars in Spain for the Lost and Found column in Hemmings Classic Car, forwarded a number of photos of the half-dozen or so funeral coaches on display at the show, some of them looking as though they could be put into service tomorrow, if needed. Thanks, Miguel!

The 16th century castle was home to the Blake family of English nobles who lived there from 1569 up until a fire destroyed it in 1910. In this fire tragedy Blake’s lost his daughter, Eleanor, whose body was never found. Today, the vegetation covers with the green vines climbing the stone walls, showing how long it has been abandoned. The only building that is not covered by nature is the ruins of a small stone hut, which is just before you reach the castle.
